Update T3

Hi Parents and Students,

Obviously, Sports Education has once again been majorly impacted by remote learning conditions and government restrictions on how much time should be spent exercising outside our household. I thought I would touch on the updates we have for sport from SSV and notify you all with some of the resources available to your students if they need some direction over the coming weeks.

Following on from Term 2, the classes were not be visible on Compass and therefore no rolls existed. We’ve hoped our Year 7 and 8 students have used the Tuesday (Yr 7) or Friday (Yr 8) session 4 as an opportunity to complete some much-needed exercise.

All resources that were available in Term 2 within your Goal Group OneNote channel are still available for you to use at home. These resources include running programs, YouTube links to Sport Specific challenges/workouts and strength & conditioning classes. The beauty of this Action is you get to pick and choose the activities you love doing. Please speak to your Goal Mentor if you have trouble accessing this resource.

Term 3 Exciting News - Beaumaris Virtual Sessions:

For the remaining weeks of the term we’ve managed to source some fantastic ‘Live’ opportunities for our students and their families to do some exercise together. These sessions will be ‘opt in’, the more the merrier! Via the following links, our student families (get as many involved as you like!) will be able to log into the following live sessions that are being provided by Sanctuary Yoga and Base Physio & Performance.

Sanctuary Yoga – These sessions will run for 40 minutes and be hosted by Vic Crombie, who already works with a number of our students and our local Primary Schools.

Base Physio and Performance – These 1 hour fitness sessions will be presented live by the Exercise Science staff members from this local business. They will be fun and focused on fundamental movement patterns that cater for all athletes. This is also a great insight into the developing Sports Enhancement Specialism in Year 9 and 10 as the BASE team run the strength and conditioning aspect of that program.

The Webex links and passwords will remain the same across the duration of the 3 week program.

Importantly, if you have your own fitness or sporting activity/program that you’d prefer to do, then do it! That might be shooting Free Throws for 30 minutes or playing backyard cricket with your family. This is fine! It would be great if you could upload an image/short video of you exercising at home to your GOAL Group sport Teams stream.

SSV update:

As it stands on the 27th of August, the updates for Interschool sports are as follows:

·        Currently, no interschool sport is permitted.

·        Kingston Division has decided that all potential Term 4 Interschool Sport is too be                  cancelled.

·        There is a small possibility of some ‘friendly’ games to be organised at the back-end            of Term 4, this will require permission if it is to go ahead.

Some of the cancelled events include:

·        All State Championships and Region Championships planned for Term 4, including              Track and Field.

·        Swimming State/Region and Division Championships.

·        All Local District or Division events.
