Principal's Report

“Don’t let what you can do stop you from doing what you can do.” John Wooden

Our CORE value of optimism helps to reframe our thinking during this difficult time. The Stage 4 restrictions have created limitations on what our day to day lives allow us to do.  We have changed how we interact with those who do not live in the same household such as family and friends so we move to phone calls, video calls, group chats and the social network platforms that are readily available to us all.   We have changed our activity types to include getting to know our local area much more, riding bikes as a family and finding training buddies in a virtual world.  We have learned to find ways to connect at home through more than Netflix through board games, baking, cooking and other household projects.  Our students are able to receive recognition of all these new learnings through our Microcredential Program.  This is to acknowledge what our students are able to do and learn during this remote and flexible learning time.  As parents, we sometimes look at what our children are missing as a result of Stage 4 but we can shift this thinking to what we can do now that we have more time at home in our local area.  As students, you feel like there may not be the connections that you usually have but think about turning on your video for sessions, organise a video trivia night with friends, or coordinate a group to play a multiplayer game with a group of friends in the virtual world.  Focus on what you can do and your overall outlook will improve.

Our teams are reviewing the excursions/incursion opportunities for Term 4 across all learning areas.  This is to provide all of our students with a rich variety of learning experiences that excursions and incursions provide.

We will be having another Parent Update Event before the end of term.  This will allow us to share the developments in our Stage 2 building process as well as additional updates moving into Term 4.

Inaugural “BE” Program

Starting November 30th, our students will step into the “BE” Program.  In preparation for the 2021 school year:

Year 7s will “BE” Year 8

Year 8s will “BE” Year 9

Year 9s will “BE” Year 10

This provides students with transition time into their new year level with new groups and teachers.  The Year 9s who will “BE” Year 10 students will begin their VCE studies.  Year 7s who will “BE” Year 8s will know their new learning teams based on language choice.  The Year 8s who will “BE” Year 9 will begin their new specialisms.  It is a very exciting new phase for the college and we look forward to starting 2021 with this transition.

The learning continues until December 10th  with the culmination of our Presentation Evening in whatever form it takes in this unusual year.

The last week of December 11 to 18 will have no timetabled sessions.  The program is to be confirmed.
