BBPS Life

Erik, Anton, Alexi and Hugh adding their Spoonville people.

Introduction

This week is wellbeing week! Our students and staff have been enjoying a week of exciting activities that are all about making sure we look after ourselves. And our friends at Spoonville have joined us on Exon Street (and in your gardens and nature strips) to bring smiles to our faces. Plus, creating spoony people is lots of fun!

The first Spoonville was in the English village of Winnersh, but spoony families have been popping up around the world, including right here in Australia. See if you can spot some when you’re out for your daily exercise.

Our wellbeing week program has included zoom storybook readings from some of our favourite teachers, dress up theme days, student-run workshops on all kinds of fun topics, a special friendship lunch, and live specialist sessions with Mr Ancrum and Sensei Yamada.

And tomorrow is all about Random Acts of Kindness (RACs). What can you do to brighten someone’s day tomorrow?

Prep

A daily Gratitude Scavenger Hunt has been keeping our preps busy. Each day they have to find four objects. Wednesday’s scavenger hunt included:

Something that makes you feel safe.

Something that makes a beautiful sound.

Someone you are grateful for.

Something that is unique to you

What objects would you choose if you had to do your own scavenger hunt?

Preps have also been writing acrostic poems and poems with rhyming couplets. Here is

Grades 1 and 2

It is Disco time! Who knew that organising a disco would be so much fun? From invitations to party outfits, our 1’s and 2’s have all the moves.

How many marbles will fit in that jar on your shelf? Grades 1 and 2 may have the answer This week they’ve been looking at capacity, putting things in containers of all shapes and sizes and comparing their results to their estimates.

Grade 3s and 4s have been publishing their “I Am” poems and have been making videos of themselves reading them out loud! In Maths, they have been looking at how to calculate the area and perimeter of various shapes.

This week we visited 4B to chat to them about wellbeing week. We asked them what ideas they wanted to share to encourage other people in the school to keep their minds and bodies healthy. Here are some of their responses:

Mr Bolger “I love getting out in the morning before school. Going down to the beach and seeing the water makes me feel better”

Charlotte F “I go on rides and catch up with my friends. It is nice to actually see them in person”

Scarlett “Every morning I like to go out and get some exercise and some fresh air”

Alfie “Every afternoon I go out the front of my house and play with my neighbours”

Leila “On the days that we don’t have zoom focus groups my mum will drive to the beach and we will get out my bike and I’ll go for a ride along the beach. If I can’t go out I’ll do Karate at home”

Zoe “I got a big box of paint for my birthday. I also have some canvases and I paint at least 2 or 3 times a week”

Sophia “ Sometimes I make boxes out of paper. I made a big box for my toys”

Kaevish “When I feel a bit stressed I go into my backyard and I play some cricket”

Angie “ I have been finger knitting. My Mum taught me how to do it”

Mitch “I mowed my neighbour’s lawn. They gave me a gift to say thank you!”

Melis  “Sometimes when I need a break I come up with ideas and create things”

Grades 5 and 6

Our Grade 5s will be catching up with their prep buddies via zoom tomorrow. I know our preps are beyond excited! Grade 6s have been busy helping with preparations for Wellbeing week. We love your hard work – thanks for being great leaders for the school!

In inquiry, our senior students have been designing a logo and slogan for their business. Here are a few which caught our eye!

They’ve also been working on websites for publication of their amazing poems – we will let you know when they’re ready for public viewing!

Our grade 6 students and teachers have also been adding to a website/Padlet as a forum where they can share things they are doing which bring them joy, help them stay positive and bring happiness to their families and communities.

What is your favourite food?

Mussels! They are delicious, and they always remind me of an amazing trip to Belgium I had with my brother.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

Michelle Obama. I would love to sit down to dinner with Barack and get the insider ‘scoop’ on the world!

What do you love about working at BBPS?

I love our community culture, especially when we’re having the year we are all having. Our care & support for each other is something to be proud of. I’ve never loved working at a school as much as I love BBPS!

Who is your favourite artist (visual or performing) and why?

This question is like telling a child they can only pick ONE candy in a candy store!

For the past year it’s been Alexander Calder. His exhibition at NGV last year was one of my favourites – I didn’t want to leave! I love his playfulness, elegance and the refinement of his works.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

To breathe underwater so that I can swim with marine life. I often have dreams that I can do this!

What are you most grateful for?

I’m most grateful for LOVE xx

(and Tim Tams!)

Which season is your favorite, and why?

Spring and autumn cause some days are hot and some days are cold and some days are in between.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

I'd choose someone in Singapore because Singapore is super clean, there is no rubbish on the floor or anything, the air is so fresh and everyone is so nice!

Please share a favourite memory of BBPS

Camp! I choose camp because it’s a week away from school with all your friends! It’s also fun because I try so much new stuff when I go on camp like surfing and cooking it also teaches me to be resilient because it is very hard leaving your family for a week but camp is definitely the best!

Who is your favourite sports team?

Definitely golden state warriors in basketball! I have been playing basketball for 3 to 4 years now! Basketball is my life.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

Invisibility because if you see someone doing something stupid you can always stop them and they wouldn’t even know. Basically, you can save someone’s life and it’s not like they can push you away because they can’t see you!

What is the kindest thing that someone has done for you?

For my birthday this year in July we were in lockdown so I had to cancel my plans but all my friends put presents at the door!
