This year’s theme for Science Week is Glass: More than Meets the Eye. It was chosen to coincide with the UN’s declaration of 2022 being the year of glass.
On Tuesday three visiting Scientists from UTAS met with our Grade 9 and 10 students. Alana de Luca (Zoologist), Eve Poland (Chemist) and Serah Kalpakavadi (Medical Scientist) discussed their chosen fields of study and answered student questions. This was a wonderful opportunity to talk about their different research fields and how they came to follow a science-based career pathway as well as the role their studies and research have contributed towards scientific knowledge and application in the community.
This week Charlie and Lucy from UTAS visited our Year 11 and 12 students. They were here to follow on from an earlier visit in the year where students were able to enrol in courses for 2023. The focus for this meeting was on the 200+ scholarships available to students. The clear message was ‘apply for everything’. Last year quite a few scholarships were not given out to students as no applications were received! UTAS are available to help students with this process and very keen to ensure that students have the best chance to study at university.
