Magis report

A few weeks ago, our Years 9 and 10 Creative Edge Teams competed at Curtin University in the Regional Finals of Creative Edge. The Creative Edge Competition provides students with the opportunity to develop both critical and creative thinking skills and encourage them to experiment with original ways to communicate their challenge solution to an audience. I am proud to announce that both teams are through to the State Finals – a wonderful achievement and well deserved! Special congratulations to the Year 10 Team who won the 2022 Alec Pascoe Spirit Award. This Honour is awarded to the team who best exemplifies the spirit of the competition: working consciously with integrity, outstanding teamwork, positivity, and resilience. In essence, what it means to be Magis!

We received a vast number of entries for this year’s College Creative Writing Competition. The standard was exceptionally high, and I commend all students who took part. A selection of Secondary school staff read through the entries to determine a Junior (Years 7-8), Intermediate (Years 9-10) and Senior School (Years 11-12) winner. I am delighted to announce that the winners of the 2022 College Creative Writing Competition are:

  • Junior prize winner: Elizabeth Levey (Year 8)
  • Intermediate prize winner: Xavier Jeffery (Year 10)
  • Senior prize winner: Samantha Eastman (Year 12)

Congratulations to our prize winners. They will receive their prizes at the Magis Awards Breakfast in Term 4.

This week, saw Homerooms/Houses compete against each other in the inaugural Magis Music Challenge – testing students on their music general knowledge. Was fantastic to see student representatives getting into House spirit and pushing themselves ‘to do more’. Congratulations to our year group winners:

  • Year 7: Daisy Martin (Loreto)
  • Year 8: Gracie Byrne (St Louis)
  • Year 9: Luisa Parish (Campion)
  • Year 10: Jackson Tout (Ward)
  • Year 11: Emmeline Bosnich (Loreto)
  • Year 12: Genevieve Ferguson-Allen (Ward)

Congratulations to the overall challenge winner - Loreto House!
