Book Week 2015
Theme: "Books Light Up Our World"
Each year the Children's Book Council of Australia selects a shortlist of the top titles published in 2014.

Each week we will feature books from each category. This week we will look at the Younger Reader Books.
YOUNGER READER BOOKS
The Younger Readers short list spans a wider range of ages. There's a pair of perfect little stories for the beginning reader, each with a warm family background and a cunning twist (The Cleo Stories by Libby Gleeson and illustrator Freya Blackwood) and the charming tale of eight-year-old Ghanaian Figgy who sets out with a friend and a goat to fetch medicine from the US to save her Grandma's life (Figgy in the World by Tamsin Janu).
There's also Steven Herrick's characteristic upper-primary wisdom and humour over making friends, saving whales and dealing with bullies (Bleakboy and Hunter Stand Out in the Rain) and a delightful Victorian mystery melodrama featuring a young orphan, repressive aunts, an evil magician and the entire cast of an English seaside funfair (Judith Rossel's Withering-by-Sea).
