Year Five/Six News

During Week 8 we welcomed back Constable Des Hudson as part of our Police in Schools program. Week 8 consisted of looking at crime scenes, clues and ways to find the perpetrator involved in the incident. We were lucky enough to look at how fingers prints are detected on surfaces using a special powder that is brushed over the object of interest. After this demonstration, we filled in our own personal profile that police might keep on file if you commit a crime. The profile included detail of our physical appearance, including our hair colour and height plus our individual fingerprints, which we stamped with black ink onto the sheet carefully. Check out the demonstration in the pictures below!

In Week 10, Des spoke to us about who to call when we have emergencies and non emergency situations. For situations when we require the police but not the sirens  we can call the Police Assistance Line (131 444).

Through 000 we can call Police, Fire and Ambulance if someone's life is in danger, they're injured or needing urgent assistance.

We discussed what you would except to be asked when you call either service. One question would be "where are you located?". This is vital information and important for emergency service personnel to find you. Des shared a helpful phone app called 'Emergency Plus', that can be downloaded onto your phone to help you pinpoint your exact location.

A special mention and thank you to the families that attended our Student-led Conferences last Tuesday evening. It was a wonderful opportunity to share your child's learning with you and celebrate the amazing work they have been producing. We appreciate the time and effort given to attend.

We hope all our 5/6 families enjoy a safe and much deserved holiday break. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces back next term.
