Attendance Matters
Every Student. Every Day.
Daily school attendance is important for young people to succeed in education and to ensure they experience personal accomplishment at school in all areas, learning and with their social and emotional development. Young people who regularly attend school have better health outcomes, better employment outcomes, and higher incomes across their lives.
School participation is important as it maximises life opportunities for young people, by providing them with education and support networks. Schooling helps people to develop important skills, knowledge and values which set them up for further learning and participation in their community. When our students miss days at school unrelated to explained illness, they miss out on learning and practising the fundamental skills that will support them in achieving their goals in later years at school and in the life beyond school. There is no 'safe' number of days for missing learning at school. Each day missed engaging in learning is associated with reduced progression in numeracy, and lower achievement in literacy skills of reading and writing.
As a College, we understand that sometimes lateness can be outside the control of the student and their family, however, we are seeing an increase in the number and occurrences of students arriving late due to them staying up too late the night before, to them being disorganised with their uniform or missing the bus to school. During the day, we are trying to manage and promote attendance on time to Home Group and each Lesson. As shown in the image above, the accumulation of being late over the course of the day or several school days adds up to alarming lost learning time. The message is simple, to support positive accomplishment, students need to be healthy, happy and at school every day… and on time.
The school places great importance in all students being at school on time, every day the school is open for instruction.
A reminder for parents that XUNO can now be used for all attendance reporting.
Save yourself from calling the school to report your child absence.
You can now log on XUNO and enter student absentees for the day, sessions 1through 4.
Just log in type the reason for the absence from school e.g. sick, appointment etc
When receiving an SMS notification from the attendance officer, just reply via your mobile message and the school will receive your response and amend student attendance accordingly.
Another option using the XUNO portal is to amend any changes of personal data including home address or phone numbers.
