Maddisyn Smeaton of Year 10 applied for and achieved a place in the Parliamentary Program representing Victoria. She worked with a cohort of peers to present a parliamentary recommendation directly to the Senate.
Maddisyn can be congratulated on her participation in this important event and for representing Victoria and Taylors Lakes Secondary College as an accomplished ambassador. She delivered the Acknowledgement of Country as the Victorian representative to the Federal Convention.
National Curriculum Services (NCS) is the organiser of the Convention for the Australian Government Department of Education (DOE), and supported by the Department of Education and Training, Victoria (DET).
The one-day Convention held on Thursday 27 October 2022 is streamed live from the Museum of Australian Democracy in Canberra. Students are joined by other states and territories from their central hubs.
The Convention topic is Should Australia have compulsory voting?
A total of 30 students from across Victorian schools gathered at the Hotel Windsor in Melbourne to participate from this hub.
