What has been happening in the library...
The library has been a busy place to visit this term and we are looking forward to running more interactive lunchtime activities before the library closes for stock take in December. Students at recess and lunchtime are continuing to enjoy our games and activities and several groups of students are perfecting their finer Chess playing skills.
We recently celebrated Halloween with a weeklong series of ‘spooky’ activities. We began the festivities with a popular Kahoot based around famous horror books and films. Enthusiastic students joined in a daily quiz where they had to identify the title of a novel from an image of the front cover of a scary book. Thursday was treasure hunt day and a keen group of students, ranging from Year 7 to Year 11, enthusiastically joined in the fun with the library staff dressed up in their favourite Hogwarts House uniforms. Students from all Year levels participated in our ‘tongue in cheek’ competition, where they had to guess how many body parts (Halloween sweets) were in the jar. Most Importantly though, students borrowed eagerly from our display of horror themed books.
Our school is a proud Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC) school and, this year we have enjoyed running our wider reading program on-site to all Year 7 and Year 8 students. With the ‘challenge’ closing in early September we would like to congratulate the almost ninety students who successfully completed the VPRC this year. We look forward to acknowledging the excellent achievement of these student with a celebratory luncheon and certificate presentation ceremony on Friday November 11th. Our Library Team recognise the importance of regular and sustained reading to our students’ education.
Students and parents are reminded that, the library is open before school, recess, lunchtime and after school until 4:30 Monday to Thursday and 3:30pm on a Friday. Please encourage your students to use this time, to pop into the library for a great book recommendation, ICT question, research guidance or just to ‘hang out’ in our fun, safe and inclusive environment.
