DISTRICT BASKETBALL
On Friday 19 students from year 5 and 6 went to Frankston District Basketball Stadium to play in a basketball tournament. We had 10 boys and 9 girls attending. These students trained during lunchtimes and were very lucky to have the expertise of Troyce, Sam and Dylan to assist with the training. A big thank you to Dylan who gave up his time to coach the boys team on Friday.
I felt very lucky to have such supportive parents to assist and cheer on our players. Thank you to Lisa for coaching the girls team. I am very grateful to all the parents who came along and also assisted with the scoring. Thank you to Leah, Lauren, Kelly, Tanya, Abbey, Chris and Cath.
Our students played 10 games of basketball. It was a huge day. I am extremely proud of how our teams performed but more importantly their sportsmanship and their team spirit.
Congratulations to our teams:

Grade Six Girls Basketball Day
Written By - Molly Trotter and Addison Lylak
FRANKSTON- Recently on the 26th of August, a selected team of Grade 6 girls and boys from St Brendan;’s Primary School In Somerville were invited to attend a Round Robin with other schools in the area. The basketball Round Robin hadn’t occurred in 2 years because of COVID-19, so it was a very important get together!
A Round Robin is a series of 10 minute games against different schools and teams, and at the end of each round the points are added to the victorious team. In this case, it was 9 games of basketball for each team to play.
When we arrived at the Frankston Basketball Centre with the boys team and our coaches, the games began in what seemed like 2 minutes! The St Brendan’s Team had a bye game first up because one of the teams in the area had dropped out, so that was a great warm up for us! But during the first few games, our team didn’t go so well against the other teams…
After those losses, we won 2 rounds in a row!. The girl’s team from St Brendan's seemed to have a lucky court, because most of the games that we won were on the same court. What luck!
Overall, the girl’s basketball team came 5th of 6 in our district after winning 4 games. A bit disappointing but we did our best! Only one of us actually played basketball outside of school, so for the record we did pretty fantastic!
All in all, a challenge- filled yet exhilarating day! One of the students commented “A great day to build teamwork with each other and have fun outside of school!,” .
The boy’s team did unbelievably well when they won every game except one. Well done to them in 2nd place!
What an amazing day and a great effort from both teams!
