3/4 B

Week 8 Term 3

Maths

Last week we went around the school looking for different fractions that we could see. What sort of fractions did we find?

Last Tuesday we showcased some of the great Maths we do here at SFX. Across the school, we set up a variety of activities that showcased the different ways Maths can be both purposeful and fun. Parents had the opportunity to come into the classrooms and spend time with their children to see how Maths is learnt at SFX. It was great to see so many parents here! I know the children certainly enjoyed having you back to share their learning journey. In 3/4B we had some games, open ended activities, worded problems and problem solving. We also enjoyed a whole class game and some interactive activities on the IWB.

Literacy

We are currently in the middle of drafting our stories for our Inquiry unit. The children have completed their research on a disability and have generated and planned their story ideas using a story graph. A story graph helps the students to think about different sections of their story including the sizzling start, character backfill, the pebble, rock and boulder, an exciting ending and character wrap-up. By planning effectively, the students can write with more clarity and purpose. The drafts are now well underway.

Footy Day

We had an awesome Footy Day on Tuesday. It was great to see the children showing their allegiances to their teams. The weather wasn't super but we made the most of it and enjoyed it nontheless. Go Bombers!

Year 3/4 Excursion

We are very much looking forward to our excursion to Cube 37 next week (Monday 5th September) to watch the performance of Roald Dahl and the Imagination Seekers. So far this year our class have read a lot of different Roald Dahl books including The Witches, Matilda, The Twits, George’s Marvelous Medicine, The Giraffe, the Pelly, and Me and Fantastic Mr Fox. Next week we also plan to watch The Witches(1990) as an end of term celebration on Wednesday 31st August. This movie is rated PG.

Please remember that all permission notes are due by tomorrow! (Friday 2nd September) Students will be required to wear full school uniforms. I will advise wearing or bringing a jacket as we will be walking and the weather could be inclement.

SFX Circus Spectacular

Don’t forget to purchase your circus tickets for the SFX Circus Spectacular! Our fabulous circus show will be on Thursday 15th September at George Jenkins Theatre. It is imperative that all students are in attendance for this school event. A lot of time and effort has gone into their practice and we’d love to see all children take the stage!

*If you know that your child will not be in attendance can you please inform the office or the classroom teacher as soon as possible!

On footy day we got the opportunity to pop into the Red Centre after lunch and use our practice plates that Hayden left for us.

Kind regards,

Mr Brendan.
