Child Safety Team

This week the SRC Representatives participated in a meeting with Miss. Naomi, Miss. Marion and Mr. Steve.  They are the Child Safety Team and are here to ensure that all children feel safe and are there for children to talk to if they need. Sebastian is our SRC Rep. and he presented this information to us.

Maths

This fortnight we have been learning about fractions. Here are some photos of the students identifying fractions in the world around us.  Students represented and identified fractions of collections and fractions of objects and recorded their findings in different ways.

Literacy/Inquiry

Over the last two weeks students have been working on a narrative writing piece which links to our Inquiry topic, 'Walking in Someone Else's Shoes'. Students first needed to research a disability to find out more about it. They then used a story plan to come up with a character who was challenged with a disability. Students brainstormed ideas of a goal their character wanted to achieve and the obstacles their character would face along the way. We then used a story graph to organise our ideas into a sequence which makes our writing easier and clearer.

So far we have began drafting our 'sizzling starts' which introduces the reader to the character, the setting and the events to take place. This week students also began drafting the next step, of 'building tension'. This is where the character's challenges come to life and begin to get bigger and bigger until they hit a peak. Our next step will be to draft our 'exciting ending', which includes how the character will overcome the challenges to achieve their goal.

Through the writing process students have had the opportunity to receive peer feedback and to self assess their own work, so they are able to up-skill their writing piece. Once the drafting stage is complete, students will be able to publish their work on a google doc, which will then be printed, illustrated and bound to become a book.

Everyone has worked super hard on their writing and are proud of their success. We can't wait to see the finish stories!

Circus Skills

We're all very excited for our upcoming circus performance and the students have been working hard on practicing their skills. Here is a little sneak peak of what we have been doing...
