Music Soirees
On Tuesday night this week we had the first of our 3 Music Soirees. 25 nervous students lined up to perform solos and small ensemble music in the first of a series of Music Soirees. The large audience demonstrated the commitment of our school community to our student’s musical education and they certainly weren’t disappointed in the range and quality of items presented. Performances ranged from first year instrumentalists through to senior students preparing for university auditions and eighth grade exams. All students are to be congratulated for their very fine performances and the way they presented themselves on stage.
Student Reflections of the night
- "I thought my leg was having a seizure but I didn’t die and everyone thought I played well and I thought I did too" - Isabel, violinist
- ''It was a bit nerve wracking but, in the end, it was rewarding to get on stage and show the audience what I was made of" - Osbourne, flautist
- "I thought I played well and was glad to get good feedback from the audience. There is still room for improvement as always and it was good to have a practice for my exam in two days" - Rebecca, flautist
- "It was good to see that everyone gave 100% to practice their solos and it showed. It was an enjoyable night with a variety of styles on display" - Callum, guitarist and euphonium player
- "I was almost in tears but my family was there to support me including my Grandmother on video call" - Aiden, trumpeter
- "My reed snapped before I got on stage. I ran out of breath and nearly fainted from lack of oxygen. Super fun experience (not meant to be sarcastic)" - Lily, clarinetist
- "The music soiree was a great opportunity to see everyone showcase their unique style. A really fun night" - James, drummer
- "I was so excited and then the moment I stepped on school ground the butterflies arrived" - Kate, saxophonist and flautist
Spring Concert
The Spring Concert is on Tuesday 13th September at 7.00 pm in Boucher Hall. This concert will showcase all school ensembles and will show the work students have done this term. Entry is by gold coin donation, paid at the door. This time we would like to reintroduce supper at the end of the concert to enable families to have a chat and meet some of the music teachers. We are asking for audience members to bring a plate of biscuits or cake to share. Tea and coffee will be available.
