Roles and Responsibilities of the Student Manager

Student Managers are responsible to oversee the following:
Student Managers are leaders of a team of Homegroup and Classroom Teachers with special responsibility for the pastoral care, wellbeing and engagement of students at that level. Student Managers are responsible for working as a team ensuring that the students’ transition through the school is smooth.
Responsibilities include:
- Caring for overall wellbeing of students in that level
- Setting clear expectations and dealing with the following:
- uniform
- attendance
- punctuality
- school values
- discipline
- reward systems – postcards, recognition at whole school assemblies, house points
- communicating these in the appropriate forum (assemblies, emails, bulletins)
- Year 7 - 12 Detentions on Tuesday nights from 3.15 - 4pm.
- Regularly updating COMPASS student chronicle with actions and relevant information regarding students.
- Development of behaviour plans
- Dealing with student management issues referred on from Homegroup/Classroom Teachers and, where necessary, contacting parents.
- Implementing procedures consistent with the Macleod College Student Engagement and Wellbeing Policy and Staged Management Approach.
- Supporting staff in their teaching duties with a view to maintaining positive working relationships at the year level.
- Developing class lists for homegroups and assisting students with subject changes at the beginning of each semester.
- Organising camps, except where a level camp has a specific objective eg. German or Music. Discuss staffing arrangements for camps/excursions with Daily Organiser.
- Regularly communicating with Classroom Teachers to ensure the smooth running of the year level.
- Liaising closely with Wellbeing Team as required.
- Inform parents of coming events and school expectations that are relevant only at that level and holding discussions with parents/teacher/students concerning academic, pastoral or student management issues.
- Attending Sub School meetings.
Attendance
Weekly attendance meetings to log staged responses and follow up phone calls with parents.
Punctuality
Print out lates for all students every week and follow up according to lateness process.
- Friday afternoon print out year level lates.
- Highlight students who have had 2 or more lates
- 3 lates = after school detention
Detention
- Log students on Compass that need a detention
- Provide students with paperwork for detention
- Monitor attendance Stage 1 & 2
- Contact Assistant Principal for students who are Stage 3 to organise an internal suspension.
Behaviour
Log and monitor daily COMPASS chronicle for students in their year level, follow up incidents and post actions on COMPASS
Uniform
Monitor uniform as often as possible. Any students who have incorrect uniform will receive a uniform pass and be followed up according to uniform process.
Academic Progress
Students identifies by the teacher as being ‘at risk’ will require more regular monitoring through either:
- Being placed on a work card and or contract
- Attend regular performance review meetings with Student Manager and or parent/carer
COMPASS – Chronicle Digest
Regularly check chronicle digest to monitor year level student involvement in activities/incidents. Document and post responses/actions relating to posts being put up by staff and Student Manager.
At Risk
Regularly monitor students who are ‘at risk’ in the year level. Arrange meeting with Assistant Principal to address issues and support students.
At risk meeting will occur for the following reasons:
- attendance below 85%
- disengagement of student in class
- student struggling with workload and may not be completing allocated number of assessment tasks
- behavior concerns
