Gyranda Visit

Last week we had the privilege of travelling to Gyranda (near Theodore) to attend the Gyranda open day, supporting one of our boarding families, Nikki and Peter Mahony (Chris OB 2021, Pat Year 12, Dom Year 11).

We took along some of our boarders, set up a free coffee tent for visitors and had a great time getting to meet local families and exploring this wonderful property.

City v Country Rugby League Game

Tuesday saw the inaugural Boarder's City vs Country Rugby League Match. We had been planning it for some time and there was plenty of banter around the dorms leading into the game. The coaching teams of (Country: Jim Noble and Melissa Orcher - City: Patrick Conn, Charlie Taylor, Brad Winchester and Malachy Grealy) had a couple of weeks of training leading into the game to get their combinations going. A raft of late injuries threw both camps into disarray but a late recruitment drive resulted in two evenly matched teams with the country boys slight favourites. It was great to see a solid turnout from the day students and staff alike, which created quite the atmosphere in the grandstand along with the pitch side mechanical bull. While the game was slated as an exhibition, there was no lack of competitiveness as the boys came flying out of the traps. Both teams went set for set in the first 10 minutes before the country boys went into the halftime break with a two-try lead. The city boys gave it a red-hot crack in the second half but just couldn't reduce the deficit, going down 22-6 to a solid country team. It was a great afternoon all around and certainly the start of a new tradition! Congratulations to the country team for being the first holders of the Capo Cup. We look forward to building a bigger and better event next year!
