Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School
Dear Primary Families,
At part of our Prayer this morning we reflected on the life of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop and her impact on Catholic Education in Australia. In doing so, we paused and reflected on some of her most well-known quotes, and their meaning for us in the Primary School at Marist College Ashgrove.
As we begin the second half of our term together, I invite you to reflect with us:
“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.”
When was the last time you said thank you?
“Find happiness in making others happy.”
What can we do, to make others happy?
“We must teach more by example than by word.”
“There where you are, you will find God”
How can we make more time for God in our lives?
“Never see a need without doing something about it”
What needs to be done and what are we going to do about it?
Yesterday morning all members of the College community gathered for a Mass for the Feast of the Assumption. The boys are to be commended on their engagement on this special occasion, albeit online.

As part of our commitment to taking care of the environment at Marist College Ashgrove and developing sustainable practices, our Year 5 and 6 students have started a Containers for Change collection in the Primary School. Presently, the students are recycling their poppers, cans, and bottles from the tuckshop and placing these into our Containers for Change bins. The money raised from the Containers for Change program will be used by our Primary Green Thumbs group to purchase new plants and seeds for our Primary community garden.
This week is National Science Week. The boys have been taking part in a variety of activities to celebrate the occasion, including an egg drop competition. Thank you to Mr Fogarty (Head of Science) for providing these opportunities for the boys.
Our primary boys are able to utilise the pool canteen facilities for breakfast in the morning. However, they are reminded that they must sign out in Primary Reception prior to heading down. Only primary boys purchasing food are able to leave the Primary Yard.
Not sure what to get dad this Father’s Day? Our Year 8 Commerce students have you covered. The boys in Year 8 will be selling a range of Father’s Day gifts ranging from $5.00 to $15.00 on Tuesday 23 August in the Primary Quad at Break 1. These gifts will include car deodorisers, BBQ utensils, mugs, lolly bags and chocolates. Payment is to be made using the Monitor student cards.
