Year 11 Retreat Day

Last Friday 17 March, Year 11 travelled to Mulgoa for a retreat day which is the first phase of the senior formation program. It is a longer day than reflection days in Year 5 to Year 10 to make the most of our time together away from the distractions, pressures, and routines of the usual school day. The program was facilitated by Mr Leslie and Mr Bottalico and each homeroom was led by their own homeroom teacher.

The theme for the day was The Spirituality of Liberation of Men. We reflected on the journey from childhood to adulthood and what it means to be a man in today’s world. This focused on the importance of rites of passage, our relationships with other men and women, and finding purpose in our lives through understanding who we are and what we believe in.

We also reflected on important issues such as equity and respect for women including questions of consent and how respectful and equitable relationships with women is liberating, not just for women, but for men as well.

The senior retreat program is a journey that begins with this day but will be developed further on the residential senior retreat in Term 4. Many thanks to Mr Herro, Year 11 Coordinator, for his leadership of the young men on the day, to our co-facilitator Mr Bottalico and all of the Year 11 Homeroom Team for their contributions to the success of the day.
