Sail Training for our 'Newbies'

All the 2023 Year 7 students had the opportunity to experience sailing recently. Over two days, three groups of 50 students took turns in sailing in one of the College’s six Puffin Pacers, where they were also given basic seamanship training by an experienced helmsman. Some also had the opportunity to swim ashore from the RIB safety boats.

Sail training is conducted at the MEC (Marine Education Centre) every Tuesday after school - weather permitting -  for all who are interested. Team Racing is conducted  on Wednesday afternoons at the Sandy Bay Sailing Club for the more experienced sailors.

Sailing is coordinated by Br Peter Flint and Matt Cubit with the assistance from Geoff Doolan and Bruce Woods.  Further assistance would be welcome. Contact Br Peter if you might be able to help, pflint@stvirgils.tas.edu.au
