School Philosophy

Orchard Grove Primary School is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that engages curiosity, promotes learning, personal growth, and well-being for all students. We strive to develop adaptability and resilience so students can become valued members of the local and global communities and be prepared for future life experiences.

From the Principal

Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, as we head towards the end of a fantastic first term of 2023.

We have once again had a busy two weeks, starting with Clean Up Orchard Grove Day. It was great to see all year levels, with their gardening gloves, cleaning up an area of our school with such enthusiasm!

Our Year Six campers have been/are currently in Canberra. This year, they flew up and bussed back, visiting places such as the War Memorial, Questacon, Parliament House and learning about our voting system at the Museum of Australian Democracy. A big thank you to the staff and parents who attended Canberra camp; it is a full-on few days but well worth it, given the enjoyment had by the students.

We have also sent a group of Year Five students to Somers camp this year. They are there for nine days with a range of students from other Inner East schools. This camp happens every two years, with Orchard Grove not attending the past few. Thank you to Andrew Moore for his organisation in getting this up and running for our students this year.

Our Years Three and Five students have also had their NAPLAN tests over the past week and a half. These tests are earlier this year (they used to be in May), something that has been rolled out Australia-wide, as part of a plan to get the data from these assessments to schools earlier in the school year.

Next week is Planning Week, so expect some changes to the times of specialist classes. They will be all on the same day to allow the teachers to spend the day looking into fun and exciting ways to teach the curriculum next term. Keep an eye out for notes from Team Leaders as to what days this will be for your children.

School photos are on April 4. Please remember that students need to wear their full school uniform (not house t-shirts) on the day as our class group shots will be taken.

Finally, thank you to everyone who donated items for the Easter raffle; it will be drawn on Monday April 3.

Till next time!
