Writing

Throughout the year, during Writing, students will be exposed to and write a range of text types. They also learn to create their own texts following the Writing Process.

An important part of our writing program is developing the skill of correct letter formation in handwriting. Handwriting skills are outlined in the outcomes set for all levels from Prep upwards. Students begin learning “letter formation patterns” in their first year of schooling and work towards developing a “personal handwriting style that is legible, fluent and automatic and supports writing for extended periods” into Secondary School.

In conjunction with learning to handwrite is the expectation that all students will learn how to create texts using software programs. So across our Learning Communities, you will see students creating text either by handwriting or typing. The Prep and Year 1 and 2 Communities all have access to Chromebooks which the students use for a range of purposes including publishing their writing. Our Year 3 - 6 students all have their own Chromebook.
