Year 8 News

Vermont Secondary College

The Vermont Athletics Carnival was on Friday last week and our three houses battled it out in a variety of track and field events. Participation was high and our students took the opportunity to demonstrate their sporting prowess and team spirit. It was a fantastic day with beautiful weather and electric atmosphere. Congratulations and well done to all participants for their efforts on the day.

Classrooms in Action!

In year 8 at this time of year, students are exploring poetry in English, linear equations in Maths, coding apps in DT, physics in Science, hockey in PE, The Crusades in History, annotating world maps in Geography and playmaking in Drama.…just to name a few!

Cycle 1 Reports on the Horizon

As Cycle 1 reports approach it’s a good time to remind students to be proactive in responding to communications with teachers and to ensure that they are recording key homework regularly in their diaries and revising class content regularly.

If you are not sure how to revise and prepare for tests and CATs, please ask your teacher for advice. Whilst assessments can be daunting at times, remember that they are a snapshot of your progress and assist in future goal setting for the year.

Regular Reading

Parents please ensure that your child is regularly reading each night and encourage them to visit the school library if they are “in between reads”. The library also has a wide selection of audio books and digital books for borrowing as well.
