On Friday March 10th, selected students took part in the Minus 18 Youth Empowerment Workshop. Minus 18 aims to support students who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.
Students discussed a variety of issues for people from the queer community.
The importance of teachers, peers and family using correct language and terminology was highlighted.
Also, some of the discussion centered around how these students could become leaders for the queer community.
The students agreed that qualities like empathy, kindness, courage and openness were important for this role. Alex Tiver, Leesa Moar, Tori Adams and Sally Todaro were the staff who attended the event.
We were all very impressed with this group of young people and the way they listened respectfully and spoke passionately.

We run Queer Alliance every Friday lunch – a support group for LGBTQI+ students and their allies. Please see Alex Tiver for more details.
