Languages

Week

Languages Week is held in August every year and is designed to raise awareness of the benefits of language and highlight the linguistic diversity in our community.

Students doing Languages Other Than English at Marangaroo Primary School participated in a range of activities to help celebrate Languages week.

Senior students learnt a few words in the Japanese language and learnt about the Tanabata Festival or Star Festival.  They wrote GOOD LUCK using Japanese scripts on small, colourful strips of paper (tanzaku) and hang them on the branches of a small tree near our vegetable garden beds.

Students in Year 4/5 learnt how to say common greetings in the Maori Language. They also made the Maori bone pendants/necklaces using air dry clay.

Year 3/4 students learnt to say a few words in the Japanese language and had fun making the Cherry Blossoms.

Year 2/3 students learnt a few words in the Chinese language and enjoyed making the lanterns for Mid-Autumn Festival which is also called the Moon cake festival.
