      REFLECTION

During this week’s Google Meets with the senior classes I asked the students to score themselves out of 5 in regards to how they were currently feeling.

Most students scored 3, 4 or 5 out of 5. Those who scored 1 or 2 explained that they were tired of lockdown, tired of being at home, missing their friends and wanting to return to a routine. We watched “Kid President's 25 Reasons to be Thankful” video. We reflected on why we should be grateful and thankful for what we have. We wrote these reasons around the shape of a gratitude jar. Here are some of our reasons:

family, friends, life, health, music, books, pets, flowers, medicine, nature, imagination, education, technology, happiness, shelter, grandparents etc.

After we had shared our thoughts those students who had scored 1 or 2 all explained that they felt much better when they realised that there were many reasons to be happy even during lockdown. So if you're feeling sad,  take some time to reflect on what you should be grateful for and maybe make your own gratitude jar to fill with positive thoughts.

Have a safe and restful holiday.

God bless all the St Kevin’s community.

                      See you all next term

Prayer for a Time of Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced

remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors

remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home

remember those who must choose between

preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our

children when their schools close

remember those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips

remember those that have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money

in the tumult of the economic market

remember those who have no margin at all.

As anxiety grips our country, let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot physically

wrap our arms around each other,

let us yet find ways to be the loving

embrace of God to our neighbors.

Amen.

Sunday Gospel Readings

During Term 3 each class at St Kevin’s School is allocated the gospel reading for the following weekend’s mass. In Religious Education lessons the gospel is read and discussed with the students to unpack its meaning and message. Then each class designs a poster which reflects their understanding of this gospel. Last week it was Middle C’s turn to unpack the gospel for the coming weekend. Here are their words of wisdom related to the gospel.

Mk 8:27-35  A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

You are the Christ … the Son of Man was destined to suffer much.

In my mind Jesus is a person who brings peace and love to everyone. Mira

Jesus is a loving person; he is God's Son. Jesus is Mary's Son; He is a leader from God. Poppy

In my mind Jesus is a good spirit in me, the one who always helps me and the one who always trusts me - Mikail

I believe Jesus is a loving and compassionate part of our life. He is like family and he saves others’ lives too. Sophia

If someone says to me "Who is Jesus?" I would say, “He saved us all and shared God’s kingdom with us. He was a nice guy and he was very patient and he knew what was coming for Him.” Arianna

Jesus is God’s Son! Pure and simple! Evelyn

I think Jesus is God's Son who has healed people and made miracles and helped people in need.  He also sacrificed himself for us. Bridget

Jesus is the Son of God and our Lord. Michael

Jesus is the Son of God, I really believe that! Armin

In my mind Jesus is the Son of God - our saviour! Sarah

Jesus is God's Son. He could raise people from the dead and could heal people when they were sick. Mary was the one who gave birth to Jesus because she was kind, generous and grateful. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. He was born in a barn and he was born on Christmas day. Austin

Don't forget about the parish website which has fabulous articles and children’s activities. Also each week in the

Family Page section of the website there are links to that weekend's Gospel activities. There are two gospel links: one for the juniors and one for the seniors. These activities can be downloaded and printed or just viewed. These worksheets will help the children understand the gospel message for that particular reading.  Scan the QR Code to go straight to the page or follow the Parish link.
