St Mary’s Primary School

Acknowledgement of Country

In 2019 St. Mary’s students worked with local Gulidjan woman Ebony Hickey to write our own Acknowledgement of Country. Our students understand the reverence in which we share this acknowledgement and the privilege we have to share this land.

Our school sits beside Lake Colac at the foothills of Red Rock and on the lush green land that has been cared for by generations of the Gulidjan people from the Maar Nation. Today we recognise their long history with this beautiful land we call home. We will always remember that our community learns, grows and plays upon traditional Gulidjan land and we pay our many respects to elders past, present and emerging.

Together we touch the ground of the land (touch ground)

We reach for the sky that covers the land (raise hands)

We touch our hearts to care for the land (touch our hearts)

Reconciliation

Last night a Parent Information Session was held in the Gathering Space of the church for those interested in receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year. If you missed this session and would like to enroll your child, please contact Mandy at the Presbytery on 52312177.

Ash Wednesday

Today we mark the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday.  Lent is a40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. The children in years 3-6 attended mass with Father Michael and received the ashes from last Palm Sunday on their forehead to symbolise their commitment to be like Jesus during Lent. Students in years one and two attended a Prayer Gathering and also received the blessing of ashes.

Beginning of the Year Mass

Next Thursday we will have our beginning of the year mass at the church. All are welcome.
