Welcome Back!

Miss Tilley and Mr McFarlane are so excited to welcome the Year One students into an amazing year of learning. We are ready and excited to be back!

The students have done a wonderful job settling into their new routines and we love seeing how excited they are to enter the classroom each morning. Together, we have been working as a team and getting to know each other a little bit better. We have been doing this by playing lots of awesome maths games such as race to 120 and number snap!

Over the last three weeks we have been taking lots of brain breaks, we also did some guided meditation in our first week of school. The students are learning that it is important to take breaks from our work when we are feeling tired or a little bit restless!

Here are some more pictures of all of the amazing and fun things we have been doing.

Inquiry

'Paddock To Plate'

In their Term one Inquiry Unit 'Paddock to Plate' students will explore the needs of living things and where our food comes from. They will examine what plants and animals are farmed for our food and other materials.

Students describe the process involved in getting our foods from farms to the supermarket.

They will consider features and uses of some technologies to grow and prepare food.

They learn will learn how to recognise the tools, techniques and resources to grow foods from seeds.

In week two, we planted our Cos Lettuce plants. We got to dig in the soil and get our hands dirty!

Take Home Readers

Commencing in week 3, all Year One students will be given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term One. Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 2-3 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

If you would like to read an extra book for the week, your child may login to the MultiLit eLibrary using an electronic device. The eLibrary uses a browser-based platform, so books can be read on desktop computers or mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets). You will find the link to this website and your child’s login details at the front of their reading diary. Alternatively, your child may choose to read a ‘good fit’ book of their choice instead.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
