WELCOME TO FOUNDATION 2023!

Welcome all of our Foundation students and families for 2023! The students have made a fantastic start to the school year and have been very busy getting to know each other, their teachers and their school. They have settled in extremely well to school life and have embraced the routines and structures of school with enthusiasm. We are so proud of them all!

On our first full day of school, all the student’s were read the story ‘Where is the Green Sheep’ written by Mem Fox. They found out that the green sheep was missing somewhere around the school! We had to go on a hunt around the whole school to try and find him. There were several clues to help us along the way. The student had a great time searching for him and had a tour of the school at the same time. We eventually found him asleep in FA!

INQUIRY IN TERM 1

In Inquiry during Term One, students are introduced to the idea of the classroom being a community and they will learn about classroom rules. They will increase their knowledge of ways to keep themselves safe and healthy in different situations and activities. They will also learn to interact and play together in a range of contexts and begin to recognise personal preferences, likes, dislikes and strengths of themselves and others. We will be exploring and learning the meaning of our three school values Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. The class will then brainstorm ways that they can demonstrate these values in and out of the classroom. We will then develop a classroom matrix based on these values, which will outline expectations of positive behaviours for our learning community.

READING DIARIES

Last week we sent home the Term One Reading Diaries with students in their Green Wallets. The purpose behind these diaries is to encourage students to read each day - stories can be read by adults, with students joining in if they can. Parents can then note in the Reading Diary each book that has been read. There is also a section for the students to draw their favourite part of a story that was read during the week. We encourage you to read anything you like!

WELCOME TO FOUNDATION PICNIC

As we near the end of Term 1, we would like to invite all of our Foundation families to a ‘Welcome to Foundation Picnic’. This will be a fantastic opportunity for us to come together to celebrate the successful start to the school year and will also provide everyone with a chance to meet and get to know other Foundation families. Our Foundation picnic will take place on Thursday 30th March and will commence at 5:00pm outside in the junior area/playground at the back of the Foundation classrooms.

We are also very excited to inform you that during the afternoon, we will be giving away a prize kindly donated to us by TheirCare (Out of School Hours Care).

Further information for the afternoon will be sent out via a Compass post closer to the time.

In 2023 the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) will be running on a weekly basis for the Foundation students. Justin Scicluna runs our PMP program.

  If there are any family members who would be willing to volunteer and assist with the PMP sessions, please email justin.scicluna@education.vic.gov.au. In order to assist with these sessions, you will require a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and it must be presented to the office before commencing the session. If you do not have a WWCC and would like to obtain one, please visit the below link;
