Year One

Dear Year One families,

Year One students have continued to settle into school routines and have successfully completed 'The First 20 Days' program. It has been such a positive start to the year. The Year One students have completed both of their split sessions and are familiar with their second teachers for the year.

Reading

In Week 8, students will continue to practise making predictions before and during reading. They will be able to use contextual and semantic knowledge to make predictions about the text's purpose and content.

We are also excited to begin Reader's Theatre this week. Students will work in groups to practise the performance of a script, which has been given to the group. Students will complete multiple readings of the text, with the rehearsals offering opportunities to address fluency, phrasing, intonation and voice production.

Students will turn picture story books into scripts for performance, bringing literature to life.

Writing

This week we will be completing the writing component of the English Online Interview. Students will be asked to respond to a story and retell the important parts.

It has been great to see students improving with their recount writing.

Math

Within Mathematics, students have been deepening their understanding of Place Value. Students need to recognise and model different numbers using a range of strategies.

We have also been investigating number patterns formed by skip counting and patterns with objects. We are pleased to see students confidence grow with number sequences to and from 100 and beyond!

Unit of Inquiry

Students have been confidently presenting their 'Me Bags' to their peers and sharing what makes them who they are. It has been so amazing to learn even more about our cohort and their families. Thank you for supporting your child with this process.
