Year Four

Dear Year Four Families,

The Term is in full swing and it's amazing to see the amount of learning that has been completed thus far. We are proud to announce the Junior School Council representatives have now been selected and announced at assembly. Congratulations to all students who took the time to prepare and present their speech to their classmates. In the end we have selected four representatives for Year Four. Congratulations to Nikhil Sole, Belle Chenery, Esabella Cong and Hannah Sheat.

Unit of Inquiry

The Year Four students have continued to inquire into the central idea 'A nation's story has different perspectives'. Students have explored the line of inquiry into the indigenous culture and the many different viewpoints of the integration of culture. They inquired into the concept of multiculturalism and analysed the demographic of cultures within the Saltwater community. Students went further to learn about the Indigenous Australian and New Zealand culture, making comparisons between the similarities and differences. Next students will make connections to their own personal cultural identity.

Literacy

Within literacy students have continued to learn about poetry and its techniques and devices. Students were able to analyse and use rich mentor texts such as Welcome to County, I'm Australian Too and The Rabbits to create their own poetry. Within reading students studied the ideas and language used in the texts, identifying the perspectives depicted. Using these ideas students have created poetry to represent different viewpoints, incorporating poetic devices.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we continued our fluid groups, which has allowed students to learn the concepts of whole number and place value in a more targeted way. This has helped students of all levels to become more open-minded, increasingly knowledgable and confident and extend their learning. Using the Maths framework of launch, explore, discuss, students have been able to build their understanding of these concepts and share their learning with the class. In addition to the fluid groups, students are becoming more proficient in individual goal setting, enabling them to focus on their specific learning area of need.
