Year Six

Dear Year 6 Families,

We can't believe that we are already halfway through the term already! The students continue to settle into their routines and programs in year 6 and are inspired by their resilience and attitude toward their learning so far.

Unit of Inquiry

Students have been delving deeper into our line of inquiry "How our emotions can affect our behaviour" and they have been looking into identifying emotions and using their critical thinking skills to come up with positive coping skills to combat heightened emotions.

Elephant Education

Last week all students got to take part in the free incursion run by Elephant Ed on the changes we go through as we get older. Students were able to showcase their knowledge and participate in games that highlighted what they have learnt so far in their inquiry. Both the program leaders and the teachers were impressed with the knowledge students had and were willing to share!

Math Groups

Students have been continuing with our Number and Place Value groups and have been making strides in their learning. We have been impressed with the enthusiasm for maths and seeing the students confidence grow during the groups as a result of their targeted learning goals. Some students have also been extended by delving into the patterns and algebra curriculum to ensure differentiation in our students learning.

Poetry

This week students have been using their reading and writing lessons to practice analysing poetry based on things such structure, meaning and imagery. Students have a strong understanding of poetic techniques and have been able to expertly apply these to their own writing when writing poems about a range of emotions.
