From the Head of Sport

This weekend we have seven buses going in all different directions with many leaving at similar times. Please make sure that you are getting on the correct bus. Also please ensure that you are at the designated pickup point at least ten minutes prior to departure so that teams do not run late to venues.

Congratulations Noah and Bethany!

On Saturday night I attended the NSWCIS awards night where two of our BMGS students were recognised for their achievements during 2022.

Swimming

Noah Erne received a NSWCIS Red for his 2022 swimming success.

Competing as an S14 athlete, Noah Erne was named equal Multi Class Swimmer of the Meet at the NSWCIS championships, winning all five events.

At NSWPSSA, Noah won Gold in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and Silver in the 50m breaststroke.

At the School Sport Australia Championships, Noah achieved Gold in the 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m IM, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, as well as Silver in the 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, Bronze in the 100m baskstroke.

We congratulate Noah on these amazing results and wish him all the best for the 2023 season.

Cricket

Bethany Lane (Year 12, 2022) received a NSWCIS Blue for her 2022 cricket achievements.

Bethany is a talented bowler and when her bowling is tight the opposition struggle to play her.

Her skill resulted in many compliments during the NSW All Schools Championships from opposition coaches and umpires. She came in as a low order batter, often getting quick runs that helped to boost NSWCIS’s totals.

Bethany was selected in the NSW team for the Interchange with Queensland at Caloundra which resulted in a tied series.

Bethany is heading off to Birmingham in the coming weeks to pursue her love of cricket. We wish her all the very best.

Thank You

This week we ran the BMGS Junior School Swimming Carnival with the assistance of staff, parents and the Year 10 PASS class. Thank you to all those who once again gave up their time to help out on the day.

Semi-Finals and Finals

Just a reminder that BMGS will not be running buses to finals for sport. This is to encourage parents to come along and see how much our teams have improved over the course of the year. Details of final venues will be provided next Monday. I look forward to seeing a lot of blue and gold flying to support our players.

Presentation Evenings

Presentation evenings will be held in Week 10. If you have been taking photos throughout the season can you please arrange to pass them onto your MIC so that they can use them as part of their presentation evening.

Winter Sport

Whilst a number of students have completed the BMGS Winter Sport survey ready for trials, those who have not completed the survey must do so prior to trialling.

ISA Swimming Carnival

The ISA Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday, 15th March at Sydney Olympic Swim Centre.

Information for this Carnival will be distributed to those students who qualify. Any student who is unable to attend must notify immediately so that we can replace them if possible.

BMGS Tennis – Round 9

Last Saturday was our second time at being at our “home” court, Lithgow. After a day at the Swimming Carnival the day before, it was good to see these students come early to school to participate in their sport.

We started early to avoid the even hotter part of the day later. Our competition for today was Scots All Saints College from Bathurst. Odds played Odds and Evens played Evens again.

On the BMGS Odds side, we had a couple of wins – one for Otto, and another for David. In fact, David has only lost one singles match out of the nine matches that he has played so far. To avoid confusion, the two Hugos joined up as a doubles team this week but in all of the doubles, their teams were too strong. Overall, the Odds team lost 14 sets to 4.

Whilst the Evens team lost 10 sets to 8, this was their best performance so far. There were a couple of close tiebreakers, that if they had gone their way, they would have been the winners and had the first for the season.

Neil won his singles match and then teamed up with Eladie to win the doubles.

Congratulations to Alex who has now had consecutive wins in his singles match and a close match in his doubles teaming up with Noah.

Girls' Basketball

Junior A v Redlands

These girls are so driven and just don’t give up! This was always going to be a tough match with Redlands leading the table. The girls gave it their all the entire game, keeping the intensity level high.  The score doesn’t begin to tell the story of how wonderfully these girls played. Great drives to the basket, tight 1-1 defence; they really worked in “boxing out” which they’ve been practising thanks to their awesome coach, Tiana. These girls improve as a team week on week!
