BHCS SECONDARY HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

By Bronwyn Maidment (Secondary Sports Co-ordinator)

Last Thursday, all of our Secondary students travelled to Belgrave pool for the annual House Swimming Carnival. We were blessed with a perfect sunny day where students were commended for their excellence displayed in the pool. We were also treated to a staff vs students noodle race where the Year 12's proved unbeatable.

Congratulations to Marunari House who were crowned overall carnival Champions!

YEAR 12 - THE SUMMIT

By Andrew Ware (VCE Vocational Major & VET Coordinator)

We had a terrific time out with the Year 12 cohort last week.

We went down to the Summit camp at Trafalgar for a day of team building, exercise and students stretching themselves physically and mentally.

It was great to see students really give their all to challenges like abseiling and the giant swing - so many students were able to overcome apprehension and dive into the day.

On the laser-skirmish course they worked together in teams to "take down" their targets... usually the teachers! The flying fox is such a great time, whizzing across the lake. Finally every group participated in the Monster Course, battling obstacles and mud - it was awesome to hear the kids cheer each other on, encouraging each other to push through adversity to achieve the goal together.

Then it was time for a quick sausage sizzle, and back on the bus to school. Thanks to all the students who gave their best on the day, and we trust that what they learned as they stretched themselves will go with them throughout the year.

YEAR 9 OES LEADERSHIP DAY

By Paul Lewry (Head of Middle School)

This week our Year 9 Outdoor Education students headed down to The Ranch at Cape Schanck for a day of activities focused on leadership, communication and teamwork.

Mr Seskis and Mrs Denny accompanied the students and completed activities such as Mountain Boarding, Archery and the Leap of Faith.

Each activity was designed and modified to help develop the skills necessary to lead groups and build teamwork. Having students blindfolded during the archery really challenged students to be clear with instructions to avoid confusion. During the Mountainboarding the students became the teachers and helped instruct one another on how to perform the skills and finally, students faced their fears through encouragement from others on the Leap of Faith.

As our students prepare for their up-and-coming hike on the Two Bays Trail, they will need to rely on the skills learnt and developed on this day.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CLASS OF 2022!

By Michelle Farrand (VCE Coordinator)

We are very proud of what our students achieved last year.  It gives us great pleasure to let the school community know that our Dux for 2022 was Ben Cramer with an impressive ATAR of 96.75.

Our students performed extremely well across the board.  100% of our students received an offer for further study in the first round of offers released in December.  This does not include the many who have secured employment.

Congratulations again to our class of 2022 and to teachers from Kinder to Year 12 who have worked so hard over the years to support them.
