ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT

Have you ever thought of Lent as a yearly second chance? Each year, the Church gives us six weeks to take a loving look at our lives to see if our values and priorities are in line with God’s desires for us. Since most of us find that we’ve wandered from God’s path, Lent becomes that second chance, or do-over, to “return to God with our whole heart.”

The Ash Wednesday readings make that call to us clear. It is an extraordinary invitation from God to each one of us - to me in a personal, individual way. God invites me to drop the defences that I hold up between myself and God.

God wants us to realise that our standards, our ways of judging and loving, are very different from God’s way, and so much smaller. God loves each one of us.

“A clean heart create for me, God,” Psalm 51 offers. “Give me back the joy of your salvation.” That is exactly what our loving God wants to give us, the joy of salvation.

PROJECT COMPASSION

Ash Wednesday began the Caritas Project Compassion Appeal for the world’s poorest people. A group of Year 7 students joined a live stream of the Mass from Servite College in Tuart Hill, which launched the appeal.

This year’s theme is 'For All Future Generations' Through our value of Compassion and our Charism element of Mission, the College is committed to generously supporting this worthwhile initiative.

Each PCG will be provided with a collection box in their PCG tray. We encourage every student to donate ONE GOLD COIN PER WEEK. In this way, we could raise over $10,000 over the six weeks of Lent.

Students will be shown inspirational and informative videos about how Caritas utilise their donations to change the lives of the world’s poor.

We ask you to regularly and generously support this important cause.

DAILY MASSES

Daily Masses (on Tuesday and Friday mornings) have begun this week. Each PCG is rostered on once per term with another PCG group. This is an integral part of our living out our faith day-to-day as a Catholic community, and, as such, attending Mass take priority over any rehearsal or training.

Everyone is welcome to attend Mass which begins at 8:10am.
