Year 7 Pastoral Care

Welcome to Week 7 of Term 4. I hope this Term has been a productive and enjoyable one for all of you.

The last few weeks have been very eventful for our students. I wish to congratulate our students for their outstanding attitude and determination over the past few weeks, with many of their subjects having final assessments and exams. In addition, I would like to thank you for your support and encouragement at home to help Year 7 through the assessment period.

Year 7 has been enjoying sports this term and has been enthusiastic in the various activities of AFL Skills, Cheerleading and Self Defence. It is wonderful to see our students working together to participate and get to know other students in their Pastoral Care Groups.

Our representative teams participating in Volleyball and Cricket are demonstrating great sportsmanship and have been performing well, learning new skills.

Please find the new rotation for sports below:

Aquinas and Brigid: AFL at Paine Reserve.

Delany and Regina Mundi: Beach Volleyball at Coogee Beach.

Winifred and Xavier: Cheerleading which will remain at Brigidine College.

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the Dr Justin Coulson event. This was a great evening filled with surprising insights and helpful strategies for raising teenagers in the modern world. You can explore his website here if you missed the evening but are interested in learning more about Dr Justin Coulson and his books on raising teenagers.

As you are aware, Year 7 will conclude for the year on Friday, 9th of December, after their End of Year Mass and Presentation. The rest of Week 9 will consist of various activities that will be shared with you in the coming weeks.

As we approach the end of the year, I am sure many families are looking forward to going away on holiday. If you intend on travelling during the school term, please ensure that you apply for leave using the application form found in the favourites tab on your Compass homepage.

Kind regards,

Year 8 Pastoral Care

As the term begins to wrap up, Year 8 has been very busy over the past weeks with assessments and extracurricular activities. Despite all the assessments, the girls still managed to get up and have a laugh during Pastoral Care each morning.

Justin Coulson is a renowned child psychologist.

Brigidine College recently held the Combined Secondary Colleges `Evening with Dr Justin Coulson’. Justin Coulson is a renowned child psychologist. This evening, Dr Coulson spoke about the teenage brain, specifically on "Sex, Consent and Staying Safe". This remains an important societal topic and one we need to ensure all our girls are comfortable with. Dr Coulson spoke directly with parents, heard their concerns, and answered their many questions. This was a very insightful evening; I'm sure many parents left feeling well-informed.

Upcoming information

Week 9 - Monday 5 December - Friday 9

The events planned for Week 9 provide a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in a variety of activities outside of their daily academic and pastoral pursuits. These activities are designed to enhance their relationships with one another through fun and challenging House initiatives.

Students in Years 7 - 9 will participate in fun House based activities as well as engage in charitable Christmas card writing.

All year groups will conclude their 2022 school year with a Liturgy and Awards Ceremony (Presentation Day). This is not only an appropriate conclusion to the year but also fitting that we gather with our students as a community to conclude the year with a Mass.

Years 7 - 9 Mass & Awards Ceremony

Years 7 - 9 will rehearse on Thursday, 8 December, in Period 5.

Their Mass and Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, 9th December, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. This is the student's final school day for 2022.

Year 9 Pastoral Care

Hi, and welcome to the Week 6 Newsletter article for Year 9. A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. We have commenced with our last assessments for the year and are a reminder that if you are missing a task, you need to refer to the Stage 5 Handbook, which is linked below. This has all the information you need regarding assessments, including who you need to contact if you miss a task and what forms and documentation you need to submit. Please be aware of your responsibilities regarding assessments, so you are not penalised for not following the procedure correctly.

Year 9 Camp

We had our first Year 9 camp in Week 5 of this term, which was a great success. All feedback from students and parents has been positive. Being able to experience the different activities that were on offer was a good chance to challenge ourselves and be taken out of our comfort zone. I thank all the teachers that were able to join us at camp; they were; Sylvia Tziortzis, Nikki McWhirter, Jen Kahati, David Nally, Jocelyn Airth and Beth Meldrum. These teachers were in charge of the groups and assisted the students throughout camp. Their support was invaluable, and on behalf of the year group, I do want to thank them greatly.

I have included a few images of the camp below, including one of the red moon.

Thank you, and good luck with the rest of your exams.

Regards,

Year 10 Pastoral Care

It is halfway through Term 4, and It is hard to believe that the 2022 school year is nearly over. It has been an eventful year, and Year 10 will finish on a definite high with the upcoming Camp.

The camp will be an enriching experience for all as it will challenge the girls and take them out of their comfort zones.  It will also allow the girls to develop strong relationships with their peers and learn the benefits of working together in teams. As the girls finish their junior schooling at BCR and enter their senior years next year, these experiences will create important memories of their time here at Brigidine.

To finish, all students received their subjects for 2023 this week. The journey is finally over and all girls should be congratulated for the maturity and enthusiasm they showed when engaging in this process. If there are any issues with the subjects, please contact Ms Fox or Ms Agazzi for assistance.

Year 12 Pastoral Care

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This term has really progressed with such vigour and determination for our new Year 12 students. As a year group, they settled into a strong study pattern and refined their revision and study skills.

A true highlight was our Breast Cancer breakfast that was organised by Ms Quirk, and Ms Wood and hosted by Olivia Berry and Zara Williamson- our Delany House Captains. Both these students were able to show their true strength and gentleness as they were able to raise awareness in our community about the importance of breast care. Our mothers witnessed firsthand the amazing support, talents and empathy for our women who have endured cancer treatment. I am very proud of both Olivia and Zara who showed their true initiative and their determination in providing pink ribbons for all Brigidine students and their dedication to the promotion of this worthy cause. In the following weeks, they have another initiative to hold a pink lemonade stall for our community. Mrs Quirk and I are very proud of the work these students have displayed, and I know the other leadership team members will also show such amazing determination in 2023.

Last week, our Year 12 Leadership team presented their first Assembly to their Year group. They were able to outline their initiatives to our community and I was impressed with their ability to demonstrate their initiatives clearly, creatively and realistically. Our students were able to mentor and display their initiatives for the following year. Our Pastoral Care teachers were quite impressed with their ability to communicate and discuss the aspects of school life they are passionate about. It was such a successful assembly that the leadership team will be running our Form meetings frequently in the near future.

Our Year 12 students will sit for their first assessment task in the next few weeks. Please ensure that your daughter follows a sound, well-balanced routine where some consistent preparation is needed and with teacher support, the students can perform at their potential. Our assessment guidelines require a phone call to our office and a medical certificate on the day of their return alongside a completed Illness and Misadventure form. Furthermore, Ms Agazzi has sent a Stage 6 Assessment Booklet with all tasks and examinations. These will be important periods for our student community. These time frames are significant for all of us, and it is important to keep them noted in our diaries so that the best conditions are there for our students. The HSC is one of consistency, in-depth preparation, solid revision and the completion of past HSC papers from which subject teachers will provide relevant feedback. It is this feedback that is vital to the development of each student's skills and understanding of the course content. Students are expected to spend at least 3 hours each night on individual preparation and have a prepared weekly study timetable. If any parents need any advice or support, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I wish every family every happiness,
