LEARNING THE EUCHARISTIC FAITH

A fortnight ago, some of the College Executive spent three days with Bishop Holohan of Bunbury, who, outside of his daily duties in his diocese, is also heavily involved in Catholic Education at both a state and national level. We discussed what the Catholic faith might look like in our schools, especially how to make sure that we are enabling our entire community to gradually, and intentionally, follow Jesus more closely.

Our learning revolved around the idea that we have an incarnational faith – that is, we don’t just have a belief in our heads, but that we live it out with our hands and feet. When we care for one another, feed the poorest amongst us, pray, sing, and receive the Eucharist, we are living out with our bodies what we believe in our hearts and minds. At Sacred Heart, our programs in Social Justice, Christian Service Learning, Liturgy, Retreats and Wellbeing all support our community to grow and live out what we say we believe.

This Sunday, the Church celebrates the last of the great post-Pentecost feasts - Corpus Christi, or the Body and Blood of Christ.

The Eucharist is given to us not only so that we can draw closer to Jesus, but also so that we can go out from Mass with the strength, hope and love to help others and live our faith.

This is a great gift and challenge to us but one in which we are encouraged by Jesus, the Church and our founder Euphrasie, who, from a young age, valued the strength she found in attending Mass every day at 6:00am!

As we go through this week, we might take a moment to consider the place of the Eucharist in our lives – and find some space and places to live it out!
