Junior School

On Monday, our “Kids Lit Quiz” teams headed off to Bathurst to compete in the regional division of the competition. They were absolutely silent on the bus, reading books to “study” on the way there. What a perfect excursion to take children on! The return trip home was rather more chatty, because we were all so excited that one of our teams had won the regional division! We are all so proud of Simeon, Clare, Elise and Rosie for their win, and for the efforts of Charlotte, Gracie, Jack, Mikhaela, Kane and James for their amazing efforts too. Dr Drew trained the teams and we are so thankful for her input. We can’t wait to accompany our winners to the NSW final at the State Library later in the year.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped run a great, though cold and windy, Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. We were at a new venue (Glenbrook oval) but everyone adapted to the change and we had a great day. It was fabulous to see our students participate in all the events and display a “have a go” attitude at all times. My proudest moments were when students stepped up to run for the House relays – those who didn’t love running, or were Juniors who ran for the Seniors team, and even some students who ran for another house who were short on runners. Seeing the great sportsmanship and school spirit on the day made all the staff very proud to be at BMGS.

We are now in the home stretch for “Joseph”! Final rehearsals, costume fittings and setting preparations are all being done and the Junior School is abuzz with excitement. Make sure you’ve booked your tickets for the musical. It’s going to be very special having the whole of the Junior School from both campuses all together, celebrating a wonderful story about dreaming big and not losing hope!

Kids' Lit Quiz Team reach National Finals!

One of our Junior School Kids’ Lit Quiz teams is bound for the National Final after winning the Central West Heat in Bathurst on Monday. We are very proud of our teams for their outstanding performances in successfully answering challenging questions on wide-ranging literature. Apart from reading voraciously, both teams have been committed to preparing for the competition since the beginning of the year, and we are delighted for them that their efforts have paid off.

Mrs Newton accompanied Team Blue, Team Gold and our dedicated reserves, James Tierney and Kane Emmerson, to Bathurst, and her support and encouragement were greatly appreciated. Team Gold was victorious after ten rounds of ten questions in a range of categories, with Team Blue not far behind! Team Gold’s win is particularly exciting given that they were competing against secondary as well as primary teams. Congratulations!

Our teams are to be commended on their wholehearted involvement in “The Sport of Reading”. We wish Clare, Elise, Rosie and Simeon well as they prepare for the National Final, to be held in August at the State Library of NSW!

Basketball Report - Term 2, Week 7

On 6th June, the BMGS Swish played the ‘Shootin Roos’. Inconsistent shooting from both teams meant that the game was close at half time. In the second half, the boys’ shots started falling and the other team got tired. In the end it became a convincing victory, 26 to 3. The boys remain in 5th position on the ladder out of seven teams.

Mr Dillon Hunter, Coach

On Tuesday 7th June, the BMGS Stars worked on how to defend correctly and practised ball-control skills. During our mini games, the team really put into practice their defending skills and did extremely well turning the ball over on multiple occasions, even though their teams were a lot taller than them. Sebastian Nicholls, Claire Rutherford and Christian McHugh were our goal scorers this week and Emily Hyslop and Madeline Russell were our key defenders. As always though, with a team sport, Robert Sommerville and Hugo Courtemanche read the play well and helped to set up some awesome plays and opportunities at goals.
