Careers School Expo

On Tuesday 7th June, BMGS hosted our Careers School Expo. The Careers Expo showcased a variety of possible careers, and provided a spark in many to set you on your life’s career path.

For students in Years 7 to 9, the Careers Expo encouraged consideration of tertiary or vocational pathways, and prompted students to start thinking about and selecting their school subjects.

Students in Years 10 to 12 met with a variety of experts from education and training institutions and investigate the practical steps they need to take to achieve their dreams. Many students and parents discovered career possibilities that they had not previously considered.

Careers Expo exhibitors included local and interstate universities, vocational training colleges, employer associations as well as relevant support and facilitation organisations. Also exhibiting were representatives from the State’s key education, training and employment organisations and tertiary training entities from around the country, along with some of the Blue Mountains most iconic tourism and hospitality businesses.

When I think about Careers, I think about opportunities. In life, we are continually presented with opportunities that come in all different forms whether at school, professionally, socially or just life in general.

Opportunities are, by definition, short-lived – but they don’t necessarily have to be. When opportunities come around, being able to recognise them and take advantage of them can be extremely important. Sure, opportunities come and go, and like most people I’ve taken some and missed some.  But, when an opportunity arises and I’ve tackled it head on, in almost all cases I’ve been able to extend myself and challenge myself, taking myself out of my comfort zone.

The question is whether you want to make the most of the opportunities you are presented with and grow yourself as a person. Sometimes just one opportunity will allow you to reach new heights and can make an incredible difference in your life.

With a conscious effort, saying yes and seizing an opportunity, you can move the world around you and ‘tip’ your life in a more positive direction.
