Mount View Art Show 2022

This has certainly been an exciting week at Mount View with the return of the Art Show after a two-year Covid break. Last night’s Gala Opening was a great success and was enjoyed all of the community, staff members and the artist community in attendance. All students and their teachers toured the Art Show on Thursday, and they were all able to view and appreciate the art works on show. Students were also able to complete a treasure hunt and submit their votes for the Students’ Choice Award. The students’ votes have been collected and one lucky student will have their name drawn out at the assembly on Monday. An arts related prize will go to that lucky person.

The annual Mount View Art Show is renowned in artistic circles for exhibiting the artworks of local and interstate artists. Our show this year features both established and up and coming artists, in traditional and contemporary styles. Originally the show was started by the Mount View Primary School community in 1984 and extended into craft stalls, with locals selling their homemade goods at stall tables.

We are very proud to bring the Mount View Art Show to the community. Thank you to the team who have been working on the creation of the Art Show 2022. The team has been led by our two outstanding Visual Arts teachers, Angela Pulbrook and Christabelle Toohey. Their enthusiasm for art and the vibrancy and energy they bring has sparked a love of art in the students at Mount View. Thanks also to Tony Lee for his work on the technical aspects of the show including display panels, lighting, sound and safety. Special mentions to staff members who have assisted during the delivery and curation stage – Joanna Meehan (Deliveries, acceptance, sales), Farahana Ekanayake (Deliveries, acceptance, curation), Nigel De Kauwe (Cleaning and safety). Thank you also to the staff members, School Councillors and parents who have volunteered for the Saturday Roster.

The Art Show was very well supported by the arts community and there was a total of 358 works submitted, of which, 252 were accepted for exhibition.

School Council

The July meeting of School Council will be held at 7pm on Monday 18 July in the Staff Room.

Student Free Day Friday 22 July

All teachers and educational support staff will be involved in a professional learning day on Friday 22 July. This is a student free day. The focus of the day will be whole school assessment processes using Lyn Sharratt’s ‘Assessment Waterfall’ along with Dylan William’s ‘5 Key Strategies of Formative Assessment’. The afternoon will centre management of people and social dilemmas.

School Uniform and Additional Clothing

With the colder weather we encourage all students to wear warm clothes to school. Please make sure that students have sufficient layers to keep them warm outside. Please make sure that students’ names are on all clothing items that might be taken off during the day.

Staffing Pressures – Covid related

With the increase in number of Covid infections during the winter, all schools are experiencing significant staffing pressures, when teachers are required to isolate for seven days. Every effort is made to employ casual relief teachers but sometimes the school leadership may need to cancel support programs or to split classes. Our aim is to keep the educational program running at school and thereby avoid the need to return to any remote learning.

Ski Camp

From Monday 25 to Friday 29 July I will be attending the two Year 6 Ski Camps at Mt Buller. During my absence from Mount View Bianca Gatherum will be the Acting Principal.
