Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Congratulations to Emily and the students from Prep and 5/6 classes on a fantastic performance yesterday.  It was great to see how much students have achieved over the semester and their confidence in performing. Many thanks to everyone who braved the cold to join us for this very special celebration.  Next Wednesday, we hope you will join us for performances from the 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 classes and the choir.

Yesterday, students in 5/6 attended a presentation with Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott.  Our students really appreciated the opportunity to learn about Dylan and his achievements, describing his talk as 'Fantastic', 'Amazing', 'Engaging' and 'Inspirational'.

Tomorrow we are having a special dress up day!  Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Australian Animal and to bring along a gold coin donation.  All funds raised, will go towards caring for sick, injured and vulnerable koalas and to help create and maintain wildlife corridors.

The last of a series of Netball coaching clinics will be held tomorrow, for students in Years 3-6.  Our students' skills have greatly benefited from this experience and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Chaye, from Netball Victoria, for providing our students with this opportunity.

On Monday, we will be celebrating NAIDOC week, with a rotation of mixed-age activities. Supported by our Koori Education Officer, teachers will be running a series of activities that celebrate Aboriginal culture.  Students will work across P-6 groups to allow for shared learning and an opportunity to build connections across year levels.

We have a new member at our school and they need a name!  Suggestions can be entered into the box outside the office.

To celebrate the end of term, Friday 24th June will be a casual dress day.  A reminder that school will finish at the earlier time of 2.20pm on this day.

In recognition of NAIDOC Week, this year Netball Victoria are hosting FIRST NATIONS Netball Clinics on Wednesday 6th July in Albury and Friday 8th July in Wodonga.  This event is specifically for Koori Kids.  If this applies to your child or someone you know, please encourage them to register for a clinic.  https://premier.sportsubs.com.au/nnl/vixens/products/event/community-clinics-1168

Other Reminders:

Thanks to the Alpine Shire, the Resilience Project will be giving a special parent and community presentation next Wednesday 22nd June from 6.30-8.00pm at West Peak Hotel.  Please register for this event here.

*We are still collecting old runners for recycling, as part of our  'Tread Lightly' campaign to reduce landfill.  Alternatively, you can also drop off your shoes at participating stores.  To read more about this program, please see this link.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this cause.  If anyone is travelling to Albury and able to drop off shoes, we would really appreciate it!

*RATs may still be collected from the office.  It is recommended that a RAT is used by students when symptomatic. RATs are also required to be used for 5 days if a student is a close contact of a confirmed case and they are attending school. Families are no longer required to undertake twice-weekly testing of non-symptomatic students, but are required to continue to notify the Department of Health and the school if your child returns a positive RAT result. Additionally, you should inform us if any of your children are household contacts.

Nb. Students aged 8 and older, who are household contacts, are required to wear a mask indoors.

*Please continue to check and update any new or past student absences via the Compass portal.
