DONATIONS IN KIND
On Thursday the 10th May the Interact Club went to Donations in Kind in West Footscray. Donations in Kind is a Rotary organisation which gathers and sorts items before sending them overseas to countries in need, such as Vanuatu, East Timor and Cambodia. We were in awe of the volume of goods that were in the warehouse, ranging from school furniture to medical supplies, such as incubators for premature babies.
Once we arrived, the work immediately started. We were asked to remove bags and tags from clothing, most of which were business shirts, to ensure they went to people in need rather than market stalls, these clothes were then folded and boxed, to be placed on pallets in shipping containers, ready to leave for their designated countries. Although we worked diligently throughout the day, we only made a small difference in the sheer amount of goods present.
We were graciously supplied lunch by Watsonia Subway, funded by Greensborough Rotary Club.
After we left Donations in Kind, we made a stop at Greensborough Woolworths where they affably let us donate four trolleys full of soft plastic bags that we acquired from Donations in Kind. If you were unaware, each Woolworths store has a bin where you can donate any soft plastics that are unwanted, to be recycled.
We would like to thank all of the Interact Club for working tirelessly on this chilly day to make a difference for those in need. We would also like to thank our supporting Rotary Club, Greensborough, for joining us on our inaugural act as a new Interact Club.
We would also like to thank Ms. McDonald for driving us to West Footscray and to Ms. Dear for organising this excursion for us.
