Assistant Principal's Report

This week has been a busy week firstly with students sitting the NAPLAN test.

Naplan tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The students have all worked hard on these tests which overall will help parents and schools look at how our students are travelling in these areas.

On Monday I had the pleasure of taking 3 Year 12 students Jodie Harris, Caitlan McFarlane-Thomas and Stephanie McNicol to the opening of the community careers centre that is situated at the Greensborough Melbourne Polytechnic campus.  We were lucky enough to hear the Hon James Merlino Deputy Premier open the space and talk about the benefits of such an organisation.

The aim of the community careers centre is to help people in our community to seek out and engage with employment and training.

All 3 students were fantastic and had constructive conversations with members of the careers team and other members of our community at the opening and did the college proud.

This week the year 10's have been out on work experience at a variety of different locations around the City, teachers have been out and about visiting and seeing what they have been learning. It’s a great week where students engage with other people and learn new skills, skills that potentially could lead onto pathways and future employment. Well done to all our Year 10's for completing the week.

With winter approaching with have some uniform reminders for students and parents.

It is important to remember that students are not allowed to wear any type of hoodie whilst on the way to school, during or after. Whilst we understand it is getting cold students ae advised to wear a plain white T-shirt tucked in under their school shirt, this will help to keep students warm. If a student is caught with a hoodie on then a principal’s detention will be issued. Also another area we ae focusing on are the white socks with logo’s on them, this is another part of the school uniform that needs be plain white and the correct length. Yet again a detention will be issued if students are not following these school rules.

On a final note I was lucky enough to go and see and hear the students involved in this year’s production of Annie which is traveling to some local primary schools. Ms Taylor was able to get students to burst into one of the productions songs which I might add was amazing. The students looked extremely comfortable in all their roles and ready to hit the road. Well done to Ms Taylor and Ms Manly for all their work in getting the students this far, I am looking forward to seeing the final production.

After rehearsals the VET Hospitality students cooked them a pasta dinner, students made homemade gnocchi and other varieties of pasta topped with different sauces. Overall an amazing sense of working together as a team with the VET students and the production crew all coming together, which is how we work at Greensborough College.

On that note I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
