Recognition of Service

Congratulations Mr Lewis

Mr Andrew Lewis attended a celebration afternoon tea at 13:30 on Tuesday afternoon to recognise his 35 years of service to the Department of Education and Training.  Along with a small group of other educators his commitment and contribution to public education was recognised by the top brass at the North Eastern Regional Office of the Department.

Mr Lewis trained to be a teacher at Rusden Teacher's College in the early 1980s.  His first appointment was at Carwatha Secondary College in Noble Park North where he honed his craft as an outstanding teacher of Mathematics and Physical Education.  His commitment to school sport was apparent when in only his second year he took on a significant leadership role with School Sports Victoria.  Through his efforts over the entirety of his career  he has assisted in shaping how interschool sports are run in Victorian schools and has been acknowledged with life membership of this organisation.

After 18 years Andrew left Carwatha to join us at Wantirna as a Leading Teacher looking after sport.  His drive and enthusiasm for school sport saw a number of changes to our program that form the foundations of what we do today.  Mr Lewis showcased his talent for organisation and streamlining systems when he became our timetabler and daily organiser.  As an Assistant Principal he has utilised all those skills to ensure we operate as a well oiled machine.

Today, Wantirna College is well known for the quality of our school productions.  Mr Lewis, as Producer and Technical Director has been the driving force behind establishing the high quality shows that we have had the joy to experience.  This year in fact, is his 34th school production, a feat few, if any, people in education could match.

There have been untold numbers of students  in both Noble Park and Wantirna who have benefited from, and enjoyed Andrew's high energy Maths teaching, his passion and enthusiasm for sport, his creativity and technical expertise in production and his overall kindness and compassion.  We are lucky that he has spent a large part of his career shaping the culture at Wantirna College.
