Year 11 Pastoral Guardian

This week, at our year level meeting I asked Year 11s in House groups to discuss where they are at this stage of their senior journey, what words described their cohort identity, what had changed, how had they been involved in the college community showing leadership, and how their role as mentors for Year 7s was progressing.  I loved the positive reflection “green and still growing” from Belle Prairie group and Rieti’s reflection about personal growth, more drive, and motivation.

Students wrote anonymous reflections on their journey so far:

As part of the Year 11 cohort, we have found that settling into Term 2 has been difficult but rewarding.  While assessments are tough, the support of our peers has created an inclusive environment for each of us to flourish.

Year 11 has been a journey of learning to balance things I can’t control with completing schoolwork to a high standard.

This term has taught me that balancing my commitments and schoolwork is incredibly important to allow me to succeed and flourish in the classroom.

Although the transition between Year 10 and Year 11 was overwhelming at first, it has taught me how to organise my time and the importance of support from family and friends.

My family, friends old and new, and of course teachers have really made my Year 11 experience run smoothly.  Year 11 rocks!

I’m pretty sure things are going to be much harder soon but I constantly forget the pain of the last assessment so I should be fine.

Year 11 has proved to be a harder journey than previously thought, although it has taught me the importance of being proactive and creating healthy relationships.

Year 11 has taught me to be truthful about my high school experiences.

Year 11 has helped me realise the importance of taking valuable time to myself and ensuring I maintain a balance between my social life and academics.

Lucy Gibbs shared a beautiful, inspiring quote: Shine your light so bright, you light up the world.

I also have a Little Birdie section, where students regularly inform me of peers who have achieved success in sport or cocurricular commitments in which they show dedication and superb time management.

This week we celebrated Brigid Pausina, who is a black belt taekwondo first dan level, Pey Harris for Brisbane District Bracken Ridge team for Netball, Jemma Keefe for National Athletics championships, and Ella Patchett as Queensland Theatre Youth Ambassador.  In the next Parent Corner, we will celebrate other successes.

Congratulations, students.  Keep working hard and supporting one another.  Share your gratitude for those who support you on your journey to adulthood.
