ROOM 16

The students in Room 16 learned about the Aboriginal Luk Eel Season.

They learnt about what happens to the environment during this season.

For example the luk (eels) are fat and ready to harvest. The Binap (Manna Gum) is flowering.

Some students did colouring in of related images and others found pictures relating to the season in the internet.

Middle Years Sub School News

Middles years has had a very busy couple of weeks!

Some of our students attended Peter and the Wolf at the Arts centre. This was a lovely production presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra using the puppets and the orchestra to tell the story of Peter and the Wolf. Students were very excited to catch the bus to the city for this excursion. For most of our students this was the first excursion in nearly 18 months!

Swimming started this week. Each class went to the pool to learn about pool safety and swimming. Students enjoyed being in the water. Again for some of our students this was the first excursion in a long time so everyone was very excited! It was great to see parents coming along to help out and to watch. I know some of our students were happy knowing that their parents had come to see them. Students were able to splash, kick, explore and swim with their class and a swim teacher. They are all looking forward to next week’s swimming lesson.

Community Participation - Volunteering

School Council and the Leadership Team have planned for a Community Participation session on Wednesday 9th June between 9.15am and 10.15am.  If you want to know how you can volunteer and get involved, come along for morning tea and meet other parents and carers and learn how you can get involved.

Remember, volunteering not only benefits your child, it helps the classroom, the whole school, and the community by giving students positive interactions, support, and encouragement. To be a volunteer you are required to have a Working with Children’s Card (WWCC). If you would like to find out more, please contact Linda Wakeling.

In the Vegetable Garden, students have been making scarecrows which can be seen in the bus bay. If you are driving past the school be sure to drive past and have a look at the scarecrows in the bus bay and garden. They look amazing. Some will definitely scare birds away while others look too friendly!

Our student leaders delivered cultural calendars to each classroom this week. Quite a few students from the Middle Sub School are in the student leadership group. They have been helping with organising and supporting days such as Jacanarama and student House Colours day. They also take it in turns to ensure the flags are raised and lowered each day. These students are doing an amazing job of representing the students at Jacana.
