Principal's News

Mandy O'Mara, Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What a busy term it has started out to be.

You may have noticed the construction of the Inclusive Playground that is taking place where the Space portable was previously located. The grounds work was completed this week and we are now awaiting the installation of the play equipment, seating and passive games. We anticipate the whole project will be completed and officially opened before the end of term.

We are so excited to announce that we have been successful with our application to become a Community Hub Australia School.

The National Community Hubs Program is a not for profit organisation that supports families, particularly mothers with young children, to connect, share, and learn. Hubs bridge the gap between families and the wider community, they connect women with schools, with each other, and with organisations that can provide health, education, and support.

Community Hubs serve as gateways that connect families with each other, with their school, and with existing services. Dozens of community hubs operate under the National Community Hubs Program, which has been recognised as a leading model to engage and support families with young children.

We are currently in the process of appointing a Community Hub Leader and will be launching the program shortly. The Program will provide access to English Language classes, social activities, playgroup, vocational pathways and so much more.

I would also, like to formally introduce our new Wellbeing Dog. The staff and students voted on a suitable name for him and overwhelmingly “Cookie” (reference to Point COOK) was the preferred name. Cookie will be joining the Point Cook family in the coming weeks.

Cookie is part of the Dogs Connect Program. Dogs Connect is a program designed to help social and emotional learning while focusing on the well-being of students by introducing a dog into the classroom.

Since its establishment, Dogs Connect has assisted more than 10,000 students across Australia. We look forward to sharing more updates on Cookie soon!

It has been so lovely to see parents back in the school this week. Our Prep-2 students welcomed their mums into their classes for a Mothers’ Day pamper session. I hope all mums and females who are significant in the lives of young people enjoy a great day on Sunday.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the families who have been participating in the month of Ramadan Eid Al Fitr Mubarak.

Regards,

Mandy O'Mara
