Year 8's Displaying Skills
Our Year 8 students finished the school year with a 5-day cross curricular program, designed to allow students to showcase the skills and knowledge they have learned over the year.
They had been asked to choose one topic or skill that they have covered over the year and to branch out from that, to create something (a model, a film, a piece of writing etc.) to present at our Expo last Wednesday.
Students followed the design process over the course of the project:
– Investigate (what is it that they need/intend to do, a design brief);
– Plan (Scale model, story boarding and scripting, including a project journal, and timeline);
– Create (a product, a report, or a creative writing piece about their chosen area); and
– Evaluate/Reflect (evaluate whether they have achieved their goal, and reflect on
what they would change next time, how well have they shown the Trinity Difference
in their learning).
There were several aims of the project, to give students choice in what they were learning, to showcase student achievements to staff, students, and family, as well as increasing student responsibility for their learning, and to further develop student initiative to ask for help, and to know who to ask.
