The Sustainability Team wish the Essex Heights Family a happy, safe and sustainable Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Don’t forget to recycle all cards, re-use any Christmas wrap that is in good condition and donate any good quality clothes or toys that are no longer wanted.
This year, our Sustainability Captains have achieved:
- Providing and replacing new paper recycle bins for all of our classrooms.
- Participating and assisting with ‘Clean Up Australia’ Day.
- Providing information on Red-Cycle, a scheme for recycling soft plastics (which is unfortunately currently on hold!).
- Attending the ‘Precious Plastics’ excursion to Monash University to understand how we can better use recycle plastics as a precious resource.
- Assisting with National Tree Planting Day.
- Assisting/participating in the schools Tree Drawing competition in support of National Tree Planting Day.
- Providing information on Aussie Backyard Bird Count.
- Advising the community of the Recycling PP5 Plastic Waste competition (you can still recycle all plastic garden pots, trays and tags at participating nurseries).
- Managing our yellow-lid recycle bins throughout the year.
- Assisting with the Sustainability board displays throughout the year.
- Making sustainability announcements at assemblies on various topics.
- Contributing to Contact newsletter articles.
Congratulations and thank you to our Sustainability Captains for 2022 - Taite B, Meyli N, Robert C.
We look forward to exciting new projects and building on the great work of this year’s Sustainability Captains in 2023.
Remember to: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle!
