Music

Jessica Wynne

In Music this year, students enjoyed performing in the first Showcase event at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University, since 2019. This involved students in Years 2 to 6 performing in choirs and instrumental ensembles, finishing the concert with a performance of the Together Sing song, Where We Begin, and the school song, Essex Heights Rock. The week prior to Showcase, the inaugural Junior Showcase event was held in our Ian Harrison School Hall, where students in Prep and Year 1 performed in choirs and enjoyed performances from strings, percussion and guitar ensembles.

Students have performed in choirs, marimba and string ensembles, and in Concert Band at Assembly throughout the year. Students in Chamber Choir have performed at the Monash Music Festival and the Kodály Choral Festival, and the Chorale Choir performed at the Victorian State Schools Spectacular event.

Since Showcase, the Chamber and Year 1 and 2 Choirs have performed at Assembly, in addition to 5U, 6C, 6T and 6CH Marimba Ensembles. Students have enjoyed performing for their friends in Music classes on the instrument of their choice in the last weeks of Term 4. All Prep students have had a turn playing the piano as they practise their performing skills and experience of another instrument.

Busking Competition

On Friday 16 December, some students in Years 5 and 6 participated in the busking competition. All groups performed well, and other students had the opportunity to vote for their favourite group. The winners were Aaryan, Jorin and Rithika's group ARJ URTE, performing on violin, viola and drums.
