Italian Day

On Tuesday 22nd of October, we celebrated Italian Day. Students dressed up in the colours of the Italian flag or wore creative costumes representing Italian culture and folklore. They enjoyed participating in activities with their buddies as well as taking part in the incursion with Big Pocket Productions. This hands on interactive program provided the ideal setting for students to communicate and work with their buddy. Students were taken on a journey back in time whilst enjoying the tradition of making pasta. We finished the day with “un gelato delizioso” this treat was definitely worth the wait!

Student Reflections:

On Italian day my buddy and I really enjoyed our first activity, making pasta! The pasta was so much fun to make. My buddy and I really loved the last part when the telitelli was made into strips of pasta. That night for dinner it tasted exactly like my Nonna's! The next activity was making stain glass windows. Once I got home I placed it on my window and a burst of colourful light formed in my room! It was also a lot of fun  helping my prep buddy to make their leaning tower of Pisa, my prep buddy made hers look sparkly and spectacular! After we all ate lunch we were super excited to have our galati, strawberry flavour, chocolate or lemon. When I got the gelati, it melted in my mouth and I could taste a burst of flavour , it was delicious. I really enjoyed St Fidelis Italian day and I am sure the whole school did too! On the 22nd of October, we celebrated Italian day at school. In the morning the 3/4s and 1/2s made pasta art. In the afternoon, my buddy Amber and I made fresh Italian tagliatelle. We used a pasta machine but it got very messy with the flour. At the end of the day we got to take our delicious pasta home for dinner. It was AMAZING! - Chloe 3/4BF

On Tuesday 22nd of October, all of the senior students collaborated with their buddies in pairs of two to make the best and scrumptious tagliatelle. They started off by being taught by Italian professionals then went straight into it. The dough was already made but it was up to them to make it pasta. When they had finished making their fresh tagliatelle they put it in a box and took it home to eat.

After recess the senior and Foundation students caught up together again to do some art and so we started. The 5/6  students helped the Foundation students make their own Leaning Tower of Pisa. They made this by using a cardboard roll, glued onto a hard green cardboard platform with grass underneath. Then to finish it off they added a Italian Flag on top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The end result looked amazing.

Then it was the 5/6 students turn to make some art. They couldn’t have made their masterpiece without the help of the Foundation students, so thank you for all your help! The 5/6 students had to make some wonderful colourful stained glass. Year 5/6 students were handed a thick layer of strong plastic and they were able to decorate with coloured markers or sponges that let in a wonderful blast of colour. The possibilities were endless. Then they stuck it on a paper frame kindly cut out buy the school staff.

Thank you to all parents and students who collaborated by helping out with school or by dressing their kids up. Also thank you Mrs. Tennant for organising all of the art activist and thank you pig pocket for supplying us with this amazing class and I hope everyone can do this at home! - Marcus 5/6CJ

Last Wednesday it was Italian Day. One of the things we got to do was pasta making. The ladies from Big Pocket incursions came and talked to us about their families and how they came to Australia. We also learnt how to make pasta and use a pasta machine with our prep buddies. After playtime we helped our buddy make a miniature leaning Tower of Pisa. Then we got to make stained glass windows. At lunchtime we were lucky enough to have classic Italian gelato. Overall it was a great day. William 5/6MM

Dear Daniela,

Just a quick note to say we had a wonderful time at your school last week  and to thank you for inviting us  to be a part of your Italian Day.

We all thought the students were simply delightful, well mannered and extremely caring towards their buddies. Many came up at the end and thanked us individually. The staff was great to work with as well- we certainly enjoyed their sense of humour!

I hope you had lots of great feedback.
